A Day in the Life

We are created for so many reasons.  I believe one of the most important reasons is for relationship that leads to love.  Not just the regular “I love you” but loving like Christ.  These little people that are living in our home, and this man who holds my hand and makes me laugh…. these are the people who know the real me.  They know the real me. They know that I am a mom, a wife, a homeschooler…. blah blah blah.  They also know that I am emotional, I cry a lot, I love to create & I love to snuggle, I am very passionate about certain things, and I will put up a fight to keep my family together.  And through all these flaws of mine they love me….the good, the bad, & the ugly…. oh yes, it gets ugly.  Best of all they forgive me.  I let out a deep sigh and say to myself they truly love me.

I love to take photos of all kinds of things going on around the house & our daily lives.  Besides the occasional selfie, it is rare if I am seen in one of those photos.  So I invited our photographer friend, Michelle Roycroft with This Moment Photography to come in our home and hang out for a while…. we tried to make it as “normal” as possible.  We still got the fake smiles, and somewhat posed photos from time to time.

There are so many great photos, Michelle is really really good at what she does!!  Her & I have a similar view of what an amazing photo looks like.  I just want to share with you my favorites and what the heart of our little family looks like.

Thank you for allowing me to share this journey with you all.

Bible Journaling

Bible Journaling?  What is that?  Is that a thing now?  Is it a trend?  Why are you coloring in your Bible & sharing it on social media?

I have a feeling that some of my friends & family are asking these questions lately.  I hope that I can answer them as best as possible.  I have a dear friend that has come to me & said “show me!!!”  What an encouragement to me that I am showing others another way to connect with the ONE who created us.

My definition of Bible Journaling (because I don’t think its in the Webster Dictionary yet…YET)  Bible Journaling is 1. highlighting scriptures and verses  2. writing personal prayers 3. creating an illustration with pencils, markers, crayons, or paint, OR stickers, tip-ins, die cuts, stencils, etc. 4.  NO Pressure…. it doesn’t have to be perfect, and it doesn’t have to be done in a Bible.

Trying to read the Bible can be very difficult.  Believe me, I know… I’ve been there.  I’ve listened to sermons & taken notes like crazy and gotten lost.  How does that happen?  I thought I was lost and then found, not lost and then lost again.  Taking notes with no meaning, no heart, no connection leads to an empty heart.  Just because you take notes doesn’t make you smart and just because you attend church every Sunday doesn’t make you a Christian.  I’ve been there and done that, its a hard place to be.

So why am I journaling in my Bible?  Because its my way to connect with God.  It helps me to meditate on certain scriptures and hide them in my heart.  It has become a way that my personal relationship has also grown with God.  So it travels with me often.  Tucked inside are treasures that are now my lifeline.  Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your work in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (NLT)

I surely hope this is not a trend.  And if it is, then I’ll continue on…. it just reminds me of the old country song “I Was Country (When Country Wasn’t Cool)” by Barbara Mandrell & George Jones.  Because yes, in the 4th & 5th grade I was country when country wasn’t cool.  Wearing my cowgirl boots and belt buckle I heard the giggles from behind me daily. Once 6th grade rolled around there was a group of “kickers” …the fans of country music came & went, but I still love Country Music to this day.  REAL country music, but we won’t get into that today.  Seriously though, with how many people have also found Bible Journaling through Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and other blogs I am pretty sure its going to be around for a long, long time.

Why do I share what is so personal and near & dear to my heart?  This is my personal journey and everyone’s journey is going to look different.  But if I can share what God is doing in my life and be a tiny mustard seed in someone else’s life then I am sharing HIS love.  Luke 13:18-19 “Then Jesus said, ‘What is the Kingdom of God like?  How can I illustrate it?  It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in a garden; it grows and becomes a tree, and the birds make nests in its branches.'”

Funny enough, I personally discovered Bible Journaling through a friend who posted something about it on Facebook.  Then I searched on Pinterest, which led me to meet my dear friend Shanna Noel, which then led me to finally meet her in person at The Little Blue House in Keller, Texas!  She is seriously one of the sweetest ladies I know, beautiful inside & out! I wish she didn’t live so far away.  I would love to hug her neck more often ~

Thank you for joining me once again ~ May God Bless your Adventures!

This is my first blog with Krafty Akorn.  I’ve had a blog before & well with inconsistancty, failed resolutions, and no real vision it was a total bomb.  It was as if I wanted to write, but didn’t want anyone to hear it.  I wanted to be on this journey of being an experienced “blogger” and making money at doing it.  I set unrealistic expectations.  Period.

But Krafty Akorn…. oh it has HEart!  I am prayerfully seeking God through this.  My main purpose here is to glorify God with all that I do, including my art.  I feel that the other social networks of today, Instagram & Facebook have too much instant gratification for me.  Don’t get me wrong here, I love them both!  And I love the power that Instagram & Facebook have to connect people.  But so many times, I post a picture of something I have created in my Bible, for a birthday or wedding, or through my personal art journey without telling the story!   And it needs to be told.

I am going to try my best to be transparent here.  Life is messy & so is art ~ let’s be real!

So I’ll be begin with this… I am a wife of 4+ years.  Recently I realized that never, ever, have we ever had anything that hangs above our bed.  I think partly because life gets busy & partly because I’ve never found anything that screamed “US”. I found this cool burlap canvas at Hobby Lobby and it sat in the dining room for a couple of weeks before I touched.  Chad’s wedding band is from James Avery.  In Hebrew it reads, ” My beloved is mine, and I am his…” from Song of Solomon 2:16. A perfect start for this canvas ~

One long weekend, lots and lots of layers, and little sleep and there it was ~ when i start with a vision sometimes i can’t sleep until its finished.

Through His love & grace, Jesus shows us redemption through relationships.  I am so very grateful for my husband each and every day!

Thank you for joining me here!  I hope to be sharing more art & stories with you in the future
